The unique mechanism of action of fosfomycin allows successfully suppressing the growth of both gram-negative and gram-positive uropathogens, as well as avoiding the development of resistance to other antibiotics. Thus, Fosfomed (World Medicine Company) can be considered as a drug of first choice for the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections of the lower urinary tract in patients of different categories, in particular, in women, pregnant women and girls from 12 years of age. The advantages of Fosfomed are a short therapeutic course (effectiveness of a single application) and the possibility of both treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.
Today, fosfomycin is the recognized drug of choice for the treatment of uncomplicated cystitis, acute cystitis in pregnant women (EAU, 2019); it is an effective means of monotherapy and combined treatment of infections caused by polyresistant bacteria.
