Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of joint pathology affecting about 302 million people worldwide (Cisternas M.G. et al., 2016; GBD 2015 DALYs and HALE Collaborators, 2016; Murphy L. et al., 2010; Qin J. et al., 2017). The most commonly affected joints are the knee and hip joints, as well as the joints of the hands.
All joint structures are involved in the pathological process in OA, in particular, cartilage degeneration, subchondral bone remodeling and osteophyte formation, and synovial inflammation develops. The consequences of these disorders are pain, stiffness, swelling, and loss of normal joint function (Kolasinski S.L. et al., 2020). We discussed the problem of OA with Dmytro Hennadiiovych Rekalov, MD, PhD (Zaporizhzhia).
