Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the medical and social problems worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, the number of patients suffering from diabetes in 1980 was 108 million, and in 2014 – 433 million. According to expert forecasts, the number of patients suffering from diabetes doubles every 5 years. Currently, the problem of prevention and treatment of early and late complications of diabetes on the part of the organ of vision, which significantly worsen the quality of life and cause irreversible loss of vision, and in some cases blindness, remains relevant. According to statistics, half of patients remain undiagnosed.
