The aim of the study
Evaluate the efficacy and safety of Doramycin (active ingredient Spiramycin) (production of World Medicine Ilac San. Ve Tygh A.Sh., Turkey) in the treatment of patients with acute bronchitis, depending on age.
Materials and methods
The study included 30 patients aged over 18 with a diagnosis of acute bronchitis suspected of having a bacterial infection.
Complex treatment was performed for all patients: doramycin (spiramycin) 3 mil. U 2 times a day 7 days + standard therapy (oral rehydration, antipyretics, mucolytics).
The distribution of patients in groups was carried out by random sampling: group 1 – 15 persons under the age of 60 years, group 2 – 15 persons over the age of 60 years. The assessment of the patient’s treatment efficacy included the collection and analysis of anamnesis data, an assessment on the scale of cough, an assessment on the WAM scale (well-being-activity-mood).
Results
After a 7-day course of therapy in both groups, regardless of age, positive dynamics was observed. The condition of the patients improved, signs of intoxication, cough disappeared. The improvement of all indicators on the WAM scale was noted, and their proportional correlation was also leveled out.
With additional subanalysis of groups, depending on the body mass index, changes in fat metabolism were observed, which was expressed in the tendency to decrease the percentage of visceral fat and increase the level of blood triglycerides, especially expressed in patients with higher BMI (more than 25).
Conclusions
Efficiency and favorable safety profile make it possible to successfully apply doramycin (spiramycin) in the treatment of acute bronchitis in outpatient practice. Doramycin affects the fat metabolism of an organism.
This effect of doramycin requires further study in a larger number of patients.
