The use of Polyjen in the complex treatment of patients with respiratory impairment of smell

Respiratory anosmia occurs in these pathological conditions in the nasal cavity as a deformation of the membrane, turbinate hypertrophy, polyps, etc..

During the period from 2010 to 2012 were examined and treated 56 patients with respiratory problems smelling aged 19 to 79 years for men (31 persons) and female (25 persons) sex. The influence of the Polijen on restoration or improvement of smell after nasal surgery. Pharmacological properties due to the effect on the components of which are an important part of the enzyme systems involved in basic metabolic processes. A special element that caught our attention is the bees royal jelly, which contains vitamins A, C, E, B vitamins, aminoacids, mineral salts of calcium, iron, silicon, and organic acids.

Patients were divided into two groups: primary (31 patients) and control (25 patients). The groups were comparable in age and disease course. Patients of the group performed intranasal surgery to restore nasal breathing and used multivitamin supplement Polijen in the control group patients used only surgical treatment.

In the study of olfactory function in both groups surveyed identified improving the sense of smell 50% acetic acid after restoration of nasal breathing. In patients with chronic rhinosinusitis polypous olfactory threshold value for one or both halves of the nose averaged 11,8 ± 1,7 cm3 (p≥0,05), which corresponded to seconddegree breach of smell. In patients with deformed nasalseptum research smell threshold values found on the side of curvature 7,3±1,1 cm3 (p≥0,05), which corresponded to the firstdegree breach of smell. In persons with chronic hypertrophic rhinitis olfactory function was reduced to 5,1 ± 0,9 cm3 (p≥0,05), which was considered normal.

Recovery of olfactory function in patients of the group was on average 14 days after surgery in the nasal cavity. In the control group restore olfactory function was significantly later (20 days after intranasal operations).
